Up to this point, the event had lacked a consistent brand, with event organizers opting to treat each years summit with its own bespoke visual approach. While the ask was just to create event graphics, we chose to also develop a brand mark & lockup, creating a visual anchor for all events moving forward.
We chose a tactile, layered aesthetic for the 2019 event for a couple key reasons. The first being that 2019 marked the first time the conference would combine both iOS and Android developers into a single event. The layered aesthetic served as a nod to both the messiness and unexpected outcomes of that combination. The second reason was that we had exactly 8 days to complete the project, from design to installation. We developed a library of compositions, and posters throughout the event were physically torn and constructed on the spot. This allowed for us to create infinite final compositions, while also serving as a fun way for event organizers to also contribute to the creative process.
